Craft Spells. Harness Magic. Automate Your Minecraft World.

Ars Nouveau is a magic mod for Minecraft: Java Edition, created by baileyholl and released under the LGPL v3 licence. It takes inspiration from the classic Ars Magica mods and rebuilds the idea around one central question: what if you wrote the spells instead of the mod?

The answer is a glyph system. Every spell is a small sequence you assemble yourself. A form glyph decides how the spell leaves your hand — as a projectile, on touch, on yourself, or as a beam. Effect glyphs decide what actually happens when it lands. Augment glyphs then modify the result, changing power, duration, area or precision. Because the pieces combine freely, two players can finish the same progression and still end up with completely different spellbooks.

Casting is not free. Spells draw on mana, and the wider mod economy runs on Source — a magical energy generated by dedicated blocks, stored in jars, and relayed to the machines and rituals that need it. Building a working Source network is its own small engineering project, and it is what turns Ars Nouveau from a spell mod into a full progression mod.

Around that core sits a surprisingly broad toolkit. Rituals are performed at a brazier and produce area-wide effects rather than single-target ones. Enchanting apparatus and imbuement blocks let you craft magical artifacts, wands, spellbooks, armour and trinkets. Magical servants — small creatures you befriend and house — can gather drops, tend crops, move items between containers and help run an automated base.

All of it is documented in-game. The mod ships its guide through Patchouli, so crafting a Worn Notebook early gives you a searchable book that explains blocks, glyphs and rituals as you unlock them. That in-world documentation is the single best learning path, because it always matches the version you are actually running.
